Minister of P2MI assures that 110 Indonesian citizens who are victims of Cambodian online scam will be repatriated immediately
Jakarta – Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Mukhtarudin said that as many as 110 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were victims of online scams in Cambodia will soon be repatriated. The victims fled from an online scam company in Chrey Thum City, Kandal Province, Cambodia. “So everything is in process and we will send them back to Indonesia, the country is there to protect them,” Mukhtarudin said at a press conference at the Ministry of P2MI, South Jakarta on Thursday (22/10/2025). Of that number, 13 Indonesian nationals managed to leave Chrey Thum City, Cambodia. “The results of coordination with the P2MI team currently in the field, Mr. Guntur of our cyber director is currently in Cambodia and in this context, 97 Indonesian nationals fled from a company suspected of operating online scams, then 13 other Indonesian nationals were successfully removed from their location in Chrey Tum (Regency),” he explained. Mukhtarudin said Guntur Saputro, cyber director of P2MI, is working with the Indonesian embassy in Phnom Penh and local authorities to deal with the matter. “Currently, all 110 Indonesian citizens are in the Phnom Penh immigration detention center for the data collection and inspection process by local authorities, but in principle, in all this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also makes maximum efforts and then we support it in cooperation with the authorities there,” he said. he said. Currently, the P2MI Ministry is still looking for agencies that recruit Indonesian citizens to work there. Next there will be action if it is found. “Later we (investigate), the important thing is to go back (the Indonesian citizen) first, then we will not investigate the company or what they distribute, we will act immediately,” he said. Previously, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Phnom Penh noted that there are now 110 Indonesian citizens detained following this incident. A total of 67 people will be sent home. The Indonesian embassy initially received data that 97 people had been arrested. Most recently, there are now 110 Indonesian citizens. “Since October 17, 2025, the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh has continued to coordinate with the Cambodian police and related parties after receiving reports of riots involving Indonesian citizens in Chrey Thum City, Kandal Province,” the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh wrote via its Instagram account, Wednesday (10/22).
