Punjab: Will the membership fee be given to women too? Waring targeted the AAP government
Chandigarh, October 23 (IANS). Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Waring launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Bhagwant Mann government in Chandigarh on Thursday. He asked whether the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month to the women, including the dues of the last four years? Referring to recent reports, Waring said that AAP is preparing to implement the scheme from next year, but women have been feeling cheated for years. He called it an election gimmick and said that the government had started recalling promises in the last phase of its tenure. He said, “It has been almost four years since the AAP government came to power. Now that the term is coming to an end, we remember the old promises made to women. By the time this scheme is implemented, there will not be much time left.” He said there is a moral obligation to pay the dues to those women who voted for AAP because of this promise. Taking aim, he said, “The women of Punjab are waiting in this hope. If the government thinks that it can fool people, especially women, again by offering peanuts at the end of the tenure, then it is living under illusion.” Waring also posted on social media platform X and questioned the Punjab government. He wrote: “My question to the AAP government of Punjab, if ‘AAP’ intends to give Rs 1,000 to the women of Punjab, as you promised long ago, will you also give them the right amount? Morally, you are indebted to them for this money since the day you assumed power. To give them a nominal amount at the end of your ten statement would be double treason please!” Let us tell you that this controversy has been going on since the 2022 elections, when ‘AAP’ promised to give Rs 1,000 per month to women. It was announced after coming to power, but there was a delay in implementation. –IANS SCH/ABM Share this story Tags
