Tinubu Govt installed CCTV on the third continent of the continent to check suicide attempts by Nigerians - Minister Umahi

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced it during an interview on Channels TV on Friday. The President Bola Tinubu-led administration said they installed cameras with closed circuit television (CCTV) on the third continent bridge in Lagos, as part of a broader security and security initiative on the critical infrastructure. The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced it during an interview on Channels TV on Friday. He explained that the supervision system was not only designed to monitor safety offenses, but also to prevent suicide efforts on the bridge. “We put CCTVs under the deck, so that everyone who will be unearthed within the 10 -kilometer radius. We built along the banks of the sea on the third continent bridge, an investigation house where we have the police, navy, army and local security,” Umahi said. “They will all be there and look at the CCTV so that anyone who tries to take his life on the third continent bridge will see the person. With this CCTV there will be no more sand under the deck around the stacks, ‘he added. The minister also addressed the recent temporary closure and reopening of the Bridge in Lagos. He said the closure was necessitated by a structural error involving the approach plate, which failed due to a poor design and subsequent erosion of the sand underneath. According to Umahi, the plate, originally built with a cantilever method, was structurally unfit for the location, which led to its collapse. In a related development, the minister provided updates on the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and announced that a large part of the road would be ready for commissioning by President Bola Tinubu on May 25, 2025. “The beginning of section one, as today, about 15 kilometers at two highways, was reached on average, and reached at the end of the project at Eleko, about 5 kilometers. “The idea is therefore by May 25, 30 kilometers will be made available for Mr. President to commission one to 20 to 20 to 20 to 20,” he said.
