With a unique initiative to promote environmental protection, Mathura district officials made Uttar Pradesh mandatory to plant trees as a condition for the acquisition, renewal or transfer of weapons licenses. According to an official release by the District Information Department, persons applying for new weapons license in Mathura or the claim of renewal or transfer of the existing license will now have to plant 10 trees. It can be installed on private or public land within the district. Applicants will also need to provide photographic evidence of geo-marked trees, along with their application for accountability and authenticity of environmental initiative. In addition to all the existing conditions, plant trees will apply, the district magistrate Chandraprakash Singh, who introduced this drug, said that the new condition would apply, in addition to all the conditions that already existed to obtain weapons license. He said: “The purpose of this step is to encourage citizens to make a meaningful contribution to the protection of the environment and to meet their personal needs.” Singh said: “Applicants will also be responsible for the care and safety of these trees.” He emphasized that public participation is important to ensure that the plants are planted. District Information Officer Prashant Suchari shared the details of this initiative on Wednesday and described it as an important step in raising awareness about the protection of the environment.
