The Hanuman Rath Yatra is held every year in Hanuman Jayanti in Ahilyanagar in the Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district, has become a unique symbol of female power. Women draw this Rath Yatra, which is part of a historical tradition that has been going on since British rule. The tradition began with the adventurous event in 1929, when hundreds of women united and took out a Rath Yatra despite the British ban. Even today, this opportunity is celebrated with full dedication. This Rath Yatra begins with a special ceremony in which the flag of police is installed on the wagon amid the echo of the drums. Only then does the journey begin formally. This tradition reflects not only religious enthusiasm, but also a symbol of social harmony. The 1929 incident recorded on the pages of history is still a source of inspiration to the people. At the time, the British banned the Rath Yatra and arrested many youth. On the morning of April 23, 1929, on the day of Hanuman Jayanti, the police surrounded the temple. Due to the pressure and protest of the British, the men withdrew and returned to their homes. But in that difficult situation, women showed unimportant courage. About 200 to 250 women united and took the wagon in their possession. Once this news has spread, the number of women has increased to 500. Police tried to intimidate, argued and arrested them. But women did not bother with their intentions. Courageous women and women such as Jhumbai Avasak, Bankabai Pardeshi, Leela Pingale climbed onto the wagon and installed the statue of Hanumanji and began to pull the wagon with the cheer of “Balkim Hanuman Ki Jai”. This incident has created history and since then this tradition has been established.
