To Corona .. Dengue Fever is a new health crisis that kills Peruvian residents

Two months after heavy rains, the city of Katakaus, north of Peru, dies dozens of residents due to their Viral Dengue fever, which is transmitted by the mosquito tray attracted by the stagnation of water. The Biora region, near the Ecuador border, suffers from a new health crisis, although Peru in Latin America has not yet fully recovered from the highest mortality rate due to the Corona virus in the world. Most of the 1.8 million population of Biora lives along the coast. In the agricultural area of Katakaus, the hurricane “Yaku” last March converted the roads and destroyed drinking water and sewage systems and came to manga crops, grapes and rice. The water also accumulated in the tanks and exposed containers, which led to the increase in the mosquito multiplication, while several efforts could not stop the spread of the epidemic in the dilapidated homes in the city. Dozens of people were killed and thousands were damaged when the rivers destroyed their banks, homes and infrastructure, as about 50 % of the 416 medical clinics were damaged in Piora due to the hurricane, and thousands of people lost their informal work. “We lost control” and by June 13, Piura recorded 82 deaths with Dengue fever, including 11 children, and more than 44,000 injuries since the beginning of the year 2023, according to the secretary of grievances in the region, Cisar Orego. “We have lost control of the epidemic,” said Ferre Bath Soldan, an expert at the University of Kaitano Heridia in Lima. Last February, Peru declared a healthy emergency in various Munans, after scoring an increase of 72 % in cases of Dengue fever compared to the same period in the year 2022. In turn, Luis Alfredo Espinosa Benigas, which coordinates Dengue patients at Swaiana Hospital, said that the region deals with the worst viral outbreak in modern history. He added: “We have a huge void in human resources, our first health care level has collapsed, and we do not have supplies and medicines.” Doctors fear that the number of injuries and deaths may be much higher than reported because many patients are not diagnosed at all. Symptoms of viral dengue fever are severe fever, headache, body pain, bleeding, failure of organs and sometimes death. The World Health Organization explained that Dengue fever and other diseases such as the Shikonjonia, which transmit it with the Egyptian Zaeji mosquito, spread more and more in the light of climate change. It is noteworthy that other countries in Latin America are influenced by the distribution of Dengue fever, but Peru registered the second largest death rate after Brazil this year. Also read:
