Muscat will host the second round core dialog between Tehran and Washington, Iran confirmed

Tehran, April 15 (IANS). Iran confirmed that Oman’s capital Muscat will present the ‘indirect’ dialogue of the second round between Tehran and Washington. News agency Meher, Esmail Baghei, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, said on Tuesday: “It was decided after summit that the second round of the talks be presented on Saturday.” On Saturday, in the first round of Muscat talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi conducted a ‘indirect’ discussion with American special envoy Steve Vitkoff in the Middle East. The dialogue focuses on Iran’s nuclear program and the possibility of uplifting US restrictions. According to Schinhua news agency, the talks took place in Muscat following US President Donald Trump’s statement in early March in which he sent a letter to Iran leaders by the United Arab Emirates, which was proposed to negotiate the core program of Iran. Later, Iran agreed to indirect discussions. In July 2015, Iran signed a nuclear deal with six major countries – Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States. Under this agreement, Iran agreed to limit its core activities in exchange for release in restrictions. During his first term in May 2018, however, Trump unilaterally removed his country from the agreement and prohibited Iran again, and that Tehran had reduced his obligations under the agreement. Since then, efforts to revive the nuclear deal have made very little progress. Italy on Monday indicated that a new round of discussions between the US and Iran would be held on Tehran’s nuclear program in Rome. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that Italy agreed to host the meeting at the request of Oman, playing the role of the talks and an intermediary. -Ians DKM/CBT Share this story Tags
