Bombay HC calls Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis in a petition that challenges his 2024 victory in the meeting of the meeting | Today news
The Nagpur Bank of the Bombay High Court on Thursday issued notice to Devendra Fadnavis, chief minister of Maharashtra, in a poll that disputed his victory in 2024 from the Nagpur South West Assembly. The petition, submitted in January by the Congress’ Prawulla Vinodao Gudadhe, alleged procedural decline and corrupt practices. The plea sought for the Supreme Court CM Fadnavis’s victory declared “Null and Void”. Gudadhe lost votes against Fadnavis with a margin of 39.710. Several compulsory provisions were not followed during the polls held in November last year, Gudadhe’s advocates Dahat and AB Moon claimed. The summons issued the Judge Pravin Patil the plea for trial on Thursday in his room and issued notice to the respondent (Fadnavis). “Justice Pravin Patil issued to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 8,” Gudadhe’s attorney Pavan Dahat told Pti. On the next date, the legal representative of the chief minister will have to appear in court and respond to the petition. The summons must be responded to on May 8. The Mahayuti swept the polls of the meeting and won 230 seats in the 288 member Maharashtra meeting, after which Fadnavis became cm. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also issued summonses (notices) to BJP Mla Mohan Many Nagpur West and Kirtikumar Bhangdia of Chimur seat in the Chandrapur district in similar election requests. CM Fadnavis approves Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Gargai Dam, for the grant of game and environmental clearance for the Gargai Dam project in the neighboring Palghar district that will provide Mumbai. The decision was made at the 24th meeting of the Maharashtra State Wildlife Board, chaired by Fadnavis and attended by Bos Minister Ganesh Naik and Senior Officials, a release states. The Gargai project is important for Mumbai’s water requirements in light of the growing population, the CM noted. At present, seven lakes/reservoirs offer water to the financial capital of the country. He instructed the forest department to issue the necessary wildlife and environmental increases, which completed the project on time, added the official release. The forest department must submit a flawless proposal to the National Wildlife Board and get the necessary wildlife and environmental clearance quickly, he said. With the approval for the 844.8 hectares of soil disorder proposal, additional drinking water will be available for Mumbaikars, he noted. First published: 17 Apr 2025, 23:11 IST
