'Comfortable and confident': Will Jacks shine as MI SRH for the third win of the season

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]April 18 (Ani): Will Jacks gave a match-winning action to lead Mumbai-Indians (MI) to an important four-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Thursday at the shank stadium. With the chase 163, MI crossed the finish line in 18.1 overs and registered their third win of the season. Jacks was an important role in both innings with the ball, where he claimed two important wickets, including Ishan Kishan and Travis Head, with 2/14 numbers. Later he played a handy knock of 36 out of 26 balls and anchored the chase in the middle overs. His everyday effort earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award, and the Englishman reflected on the challenges he encountered early in the tournament. “The tournament was a slow start for the team and myself was incredibly frustrating,” Jacks admitted during the presentation after the match. “Very glad I did,” he added. Jacks also talked openly about a missed opportunity early in the field. “Tough start, to drop a first ball. I was a little late, not much different to say, should have caught it,” he said. However, the setback did not stop him from making an impact on both BAT and Ball. After joining Mi this season, Jacks admitted that it took him time to settle in the new setup, but he now feels at home. “Took me some time to settle in the new franchise, now comfortable and confident,” he said. “Good setup, many star players to learn, try to utilize it,” he notes. The victory drove Mumbai -Indians to seventh place on the scoring table and kept their play -off heap alive. For SRH, however, the defeat was their fifth of the season, which further deepens their campaign. With the match, Mi won the throw and chose to field first. After that, Abhishek Sharma (40 in 28 balls, with seven fours) and Head (28 in 29 balls, with three fours) drafted a 59 -run partnership. However, the team was unable to maintain a fiery running rate that is by the standard of their fiery cricket mark, despite a little effort from Heinrich Klaasen (37 in 28 balls, with three fours and two sixes). SRH placed 162/5 in their 20 overs, with Will Jacks (2/14) and Jasprit Bumrah (1/21) as top bowlers. During the running, Mi Top Order contributed enough to help their case, with Rohit Sharma (26 in 16 balls, with three sixes) and Ryan Rickelton (31 in 23 balls, with five fours) who produced Quickfire beating MI to 69/2 by the time they were discharged. A 52 -run stand between Will Jacks (36 in 26 balls, with three fours and two sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (26 in 15 balls, with two fours and two sixes), MI took on an easy victory, but SRH Bowlers decided to fight. Tilak Varma (21* in 17 balls, with a four) and Mitchell Santner (0*) took MI to a four -wicket victory with 11 balls left. Captain Pat Cummins (3/26) and Eshan Malinga (2/36) set fighting game for SRH, but that wasn’t enough. (Ani) first published: 18 Apr 2025, 04:03 AM IST
