Jason Isaacs Was Injured Twice on ‘The White Lotus’ Set – ryan

  • Jason Isaacs injured himself twice while in Thailand for the filming of The White Lotus‘ third season
  • Speaking to Rob Lowe on his podcast, the British actor said he ran into a door and knocked himself out, and later fell backwards into a pool while filming

Jason Isaacs’ character may have made it out unscathed by the end of The White Lotus‘ third season — but that doesn’t mean he didn’t sustain a few injuries along the way.

Speaking with Rob Lowe on his Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast on Thursday, April 17, the British actor, 61, shared a few stories behind his battle wounds from his time filming the Max series in Thailand.

“I’ve heard a couple of stories from (White Lotus co-star Patrick Schwarzenegger),” Lowe, also 61, told his guest. “One of them is already out there in the ether… of you running through the plate glass window.”

“I mean, I didn’t run through it. I nearly ran through it in my own defense,” Isaacs laughed.

“Two things. One, it was completely spotless,” he said of the show’s filming location. “There was a crew on this billionaire’s super yacht. They had nothing to do while we were shooting. So all they did was clean these windows. All day, every day, so that you couldn’t see them, for a start.”

“And the other thing is that they oriented the boat with the right mountains and trees and islands behind us,” Isaacs continued. “And when it was in the right position, they needed you there in a hurry. But we were all huddled in this tiny air-conditioned room ’cause it was so hot.”

According to the actor, when the crew called him to set, he sprang into action and ran to the filming spot as quickly as he could.

“So I jumped into a window, knocked myself out,” he revealed. “Was caught by the second (assistant director). He said I was there for minutes. I think I was there for a second. And yeah, I split my head open, which was hilarious.”

“Hilarity abounded for everybody,” he joked.

Lowe then asked about another rumor he heard about Isaacs’ on-set injuries, this time involving an empty pool.

“I’m gonna call Patrick when this is over,” he joked of his younger co-star, who played his character’s son. “OK, I’m actually very coordinated. I was a pro skateboarder, I’ll have you know. I’m just a little bit like a 7-year-old bunny. I have two speeds: coma and hysteria. Coma is not that useful on a set. So, I’m enthusiastic and I tend to run at things.”

According to Isaacs, one of the two episodes he appeared in that required filming near a pool forced him to stand in a doorway as the scene began.

“(The crew) went, ‘back off, Jason.’ I backed off without looking behind me,” he recalled of filming the scene. “I backed off and they had not made a safe corridor, and it had a big empty pool in it. And I dropped quite a lot and smashed my head on a statue, but didn’t split it open, thank God.”

“The other (time) is when we were in Bangkok having the premiere,” Isaacs said. “I was late to a restaurant. They were all out, and it was on the top floor in some glamorous place. I walked out and I saw all my friends, Patrick and the others.”

“They waved at me, and I walked towards them not seeing that they were on a little island where the table was,” he continued. “And there was a pool between me and them, which was luckily only knee deep. And I suddenly sank, but I just kept walking and got to the table and stepped out and sat down and was just slightly damaged this evening.”

“You truly, somebody should follow you around with a camera,” Lowe replied, teasing him.

In season 3, Isaacs played Timothy Ratliff, a wealthy businessman vacationing with his wife Victoria (played by Parker Posey). The couple — along with their three children Saxon, Sarah and Sam (played by Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook and Sam Nivola) — are among the people vacationing at the resort in Thailand.

All three seasons of The White Lotus are now streaming on Max.
