Leah Lendel, a 9-year-old girl, was bitten by a shark on June 11 when she vacationed with her family on the Golf Coast in Florida. When she snorkeled there, Lendel felt something on her arm. At a press conference on June 19, Leah’s parents declared their remembrance of events from June 11 and how the doctors saved her arm in Tampa General Hospital in a miraculous way, where she was flown to receive emergency care. A video on Boca Grande Fire Chief’s social media was also posted on social media, in which the details of what was going on and how the residents and bystanders assisted the loan family. The caption of the video reads: “Here is a message from the Boca Grande Fire Chief about the shark surgeon that happened on Boca Grande. Update: After almost six hours in the operation, doctors could put her hand back together. Good news!” People from a nearby construction site helped to help after Leah’s screams and called 911. They also applied a tournament that probably saved Leah’s life, and even her shark-baked arm, reportedly. She then went to Tampa General Hospital, where there was a trauma team to apply to her and save the arm. “Tampa General, the only Level I -adult and pediatric trauma center, was uniquely equipped to deal with the complexity of the rescue of Leah’s hand, doctors said at the news conference,” a US Today report said. “Dr. Alfred Hess, an orthopedic surgeon, said Leah’s case has a major result,” the report continued. “A shark injury is a blessing and a curse in this case,” said Dr. Hess cited at the conference. “The teeth are so sharp that the cut through the wrist is clean and not tilted, so it does not ruin all the tissue and we have clean tissue to work with.” More feed, the doctors also praised the resilience and calm of Leah throughout the ordeal, which was also beneficial for the entire operation to take place successfully.
