After a thorough investigation, police found out the murderers and arrested the IIT student Mehnaz, her brother Saddam and his friend Rizwan on the charge of death of Sonu. When police asked Mahanaj about his conversation with Sonu, he initially refused. However, after strict interrogation, Mehnaz acknowledged his crime before the police. Sabir, a resident of the Bilari area in Moradabad, told police that his son Sonu had left the house with a bicycle and had not returned since. His cellphone also came down. Police immediately filed a missing report and began searching for Sonu. Two days later, a body with a head in a field in the Saifni police station was found in the Rampur district. Police called Sonu’s family to identify the body. The family identified the bodyless body as Sonu. Police investigated the case intensively and recovered the call detail record (CDR) from Sonu’s cellphone. Investigation revealed that Sonu had the last conversation with a girl named Mehnaz. When police wanted to question Mahanaj, he first refused to negotiate with Sonu. But when interrogation was made in custody, Mehnaz spat the whole story and revealed the conspiracy to murder. Mehnaz said he met Sonu while going to university. Sonu secretly captured some of her photos in her cellphone. After this, he kept her and put her under pressure again and again. Mahanaj told his brother Saddam when the problem increased. Saddam, with his friend, plans to teach Sonu a lesson and call Sonu to meet on September 9. Saddam and his friends named Sonu on Saifney Road as part of a conspiracy. When Sonu reached there, Mahanaj took him to the sugarcane field, where Saddam and his friends came from behind and dropped Sonu to the ground. They tied her with a rope and cut her throat with a knife. He then put Sonu’s clothes, slippers and heads in a bag and threw them into the trench of the Saifni city.
