A top Naxalite leader of Rs 10 Lakh was killed in Jharkhand, another 24 surrendered

The meeting took place three days after Basavaraju died in the Chhattisgarh Narayanpur district. He was one of the 27 Maoists who died in a meeting for more than 50 hours on the Narayanpur border border. Basavaraju was the first head of the Central Military Commission and later became the highest position of general secretary in the Maoist hierarchy. Basavaraju, who was a reward of Rs 1.5 crore, was sought by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and police forces from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, who promised to end the Maoists by March 2026, calls the meeting “a historical achievement in the struggle to end naxalism”. He posted on X, “This is the first time in the three decades of India’s fight against Naxism that the leader of a general secretary rank has been offset by our powers.” He also praised the bravery of the security forces, saying that 54 Maoists have been surrendered since the completion of ‘Operation Black Forest’ in Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Maharashtra and 84 others.
