Afghan police seized 210 kg of illegal drugs, 4 smugglers arrested

Kabul, September 21 (IANS). Afghanistan’s anti-alcoholic forces seized 210 kg of drugs in separate campaigns in the North Baglan and the East Ghazni Provinces and four suspected smugglers arrested. Local police stations gave this information on Sunday. The Xinhua News Agency reported that officials arrested two people on the outskirts of the Khenjan district of Baglan and seized 138 kg of Opium Poppy. According to the statements of the various provincial police stations, two other suspects in the Ghazni province were detained with 72 kg opium. The latest seizure took place on Saturday following a similar attack in the Ghanikhail district of the East Nangarhar Province, where the drug prevention units have demolished a drug processing laboratory and recovered a large amount of illegal substances used in heroin manufacturing. The Afghan government has strengthened its actions against illegal anesthetics and people involved in this business and decided to fight the problem until the country is free from the substances used in opium cultivation and heroin. On September 17, the Interior Ministry said that the Afghan drug prevention police had seized 67 kg of illegal drugs, including 21 kg of methamphetamine (ICE) in separate campaigns in two provinces and five suspected smugglers. In the Western Nimarose Province, security personnel arrested four people and seized 60 kg of drugs, including 21 kg of methamphetamine. The ministry said that a person was also arrested in the northern Badakshan province with seven kilograms of opium. The ministry has repeated its commitment to the handling of drug trafficking, saying that the police will not allow anyone in the country to produce or smuggle illegal drugs. This took place on September 16 after a similar campaign in Kunduj, where police seized 60 kg opium and arrested two smugglers as part of intense attempts to eliminate drug trafficking and production across the country. On September 15, the National Ministry of Defense reported that Afghan security forces had seized a stock of weapons and ammunition in the South Kandahar Province. The statement said in detail that on the basis of intelligence reports and a secret information performed a search operation on the Spin-Kandhar road, in which an M4 machine gun, AK-47 rifles, pistols, grenades and large amounts of ammunition as well as different military equipment were recovered. -Ians kr/
