Family of 8th Grader Who Died After Getting Off School Bus Planning His Funeral as Investigation Continues – ryan
Relatives of a young Michigan boy who died shortly after exiting his school bus this week, are speaking out following his death.
The 14-year-old, who was an eighth-grader at Handy Middle School, has not been publicly identified, according to MLive.comhowever, a GoFundMe organizer named Shavonne Doulas has claimed to be his aunt.
“I’m starting this to try and help my brother and sister-in-law cover expenses for the funeral of their child,” Doulas wrote on Thursday, April 17. “My nephew passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 15th. He was only 14 and was loved by so many.”
She added, “Looking to see if anyone would like to help donate money to help cover some expenses of the funeral while the family grieves the loss of their child. Anything is much appreciated.”
Her post contained a single image of a young boy wearing a pair of black glasses, smiling as he stood by himself.
The GoFundMe intended to raise $5,000 for the unexpected funeral expenses, but has reached more than $11,000 from over 270 donors since the link to the fundraiser was shared on Thursday.

Doulas could not immediately be reached by PEOPLE for comment.
According to ABC affiliate WJRTit was a neighbor who found the boy on the sidewalk and called 911.
He had exited his school bus at this regular stop near McGregor Elementary School in the 1000 block of Fremont Street, the news station reported. It is unclear what happened after.
The Bay City Department of Public Safety and emergency medical service crews responded to the scene, but the 14-year-old was pronounced dead.
“We are heartbroken for this family and will do all we can to support them during this time,” Superintendent Rick Seebeck said in a statement to the community Tuesday evening, per the news station.
Bay City Public Safety Lt. Todd Armstrong previously told MLive that police are still investigating the teen’s death but said it does not appear to be suspicious.

Sgt. Ben Krzyminski of the Department of Public Safety previously told CBS affiliate WNEM“There were no signs of drugs or any injuries,” but “it is still unclear if the student showed any signs of distress.”
The Bay County Medical Examiner’s Office could not immediately be reached by PEOPLE for comment.
According to WJRT, a crisis team and grief counselors would be assisting students and staff at Handy Middle School.
