Agri Minister says 38 pieces of wheat area harvested in India so far

New Delhi, April 13 (PTI) The country has harvested 38 percent of the total wheat surface of an estimated 32 million hectares so far in the continued 2025-26 marketing season, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday. In light of the possibility of good yields of different Rabi crops, Chouhan instructed officials to make better purchasing arrangements for farmers. Wheat “harvesting conditions are better” in the most important growing states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Bihar, the minister said in a statement. The government set a target for wheat acquisition of 31 million tonnes for the 2025-26 marketing season (April-March). According to the official data, farmers completed the harvest in 91 percent of the total Rabi pole areas, 87 percent of the oilseeds area, 70 percent of Shree Anna and coarse grain area and 33 percent of the rice area, on April 4. About 59 percent of total Rabi crops were harvested across the country on April 4. In addition to Rabi crops such as wheat, the minister has also fed the progress of the sowing of Zaid crops, which is grown between Rabi and Kharif season. According to the data, the total area under Zaid crops has reached 60.22 lakh hectares so far this year, of 52.40 lakh hectares a year ago.
