New -delhi, June 12 (IANS). Former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani died tragically in the Ahmedabad aircraft accident. Rupani paid tribute to political parties. The senior leader of the congress, Jairam Ramesh, remembered the time Rupani spent in parliament and paid tribute to him. Jairam Ramesh wrote on his X handle: “I still remember our debate in the house, as well as a friendly conversation in the central hall, where we talked about climate change, urban heat and environment earlier. He was extremely cozy and the house often smiled with aggression.” Born on August 2, 1956, in Rupani, born in Rangoon (now Yangon), Myanmar, was influenced by political upheaval. His family, which belongs to the Jain community, moved to Rajkot in 1960. He obtained a degree in art and right and began his public life through the Rashtriya Swayamse subject Sangh and his student branch ABVP. He was active in the Navnirman movement and also jailed during the emergency. He was the mayor of Rajkot from 1996 to 1997 and was elected to the Gujarat legislative meeting several times. His loyalty and clean image to the BJP made him an important person in Gujarat politics and in August 2016 he was elected as the successor to Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, who left the post. Rupani stayed in office even after the 2017 election and took over the government during the challenging time, including Kovid-19 epidemic and major industrial policy changes.
