56 leaders of the Awami League arrested in Dhaka, accused of the march of the flash

Dhaka, April 27 (IANS). According to local media reports, 56 leaders and activists of Bangladesh’s banned students league and other associated organizations in Dhaka were arrested in the operations performed last week. Among those arrested, Shamim Ahmed Shahid, joint general secretary of Ward-57 Jubo League Unit (Kamrangirchara police station), Mohammad Zia Mia (Bongshal police station), chairman of Ward-33 Jubo League unit, Mohammad Jia Mia (Bongshal Police Station), Patwari Sher-E-Bangla Nagar Police Station), Patwari Sher-E-Bangla Nagla Police Station) Mohammad Abdur Rob as well as many former students of students leagues and the Awaasi league-associated Workers League is included. Officials said Mohammad Abed Ali Sheikh, one of the detainees, was accused in arson on a military vehicle in Gopalganj. Another one, Mohammad Zakir Hussain Sagar, was involved in an attack on the convoy of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in 2015. Several cases allegedly registered several cases against several others arrested, including leader Imon, in various police stations in Dhaka City. These arrests took place earlier this month following a march organized by the Awami League in Khulna City, allegedly interim governmental instructions, aimed at stopping such protests. According to reports, the rally that was organized under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Awami League Khulna District Unit’ was the first such event in the region following the fall of the Awami League government in August. According to the country’s leading newspaper I, the protest video showed that the participants were wearing a banner with a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina. The protesters were seen screaming slogans, such as “Sheikh Hasina, we are afraid, we did not leave the roads”, “Sheikh Hasina’s Sarkar repeated” and “Sheikh Hasina will return like Hero.” After Khulna Rally, the Awami league allegedly tried to organize similar marches into different parts of Dhaka.
