A group of lawmakers gathered on a common platform on Wednesday to begin the Forum of Artificial Intelligence Lawmakers, an initiative designed to equip members of Parliament (MPs) and members of the Legislative Meetings (MAs) with the knowledge, tools and networks to form India’s technical policy landscape. The Forum of Artificial Intelligence Legislators (AILF) brings together lawmakers, technologists and policy experts to form responsible AI management and promote informed dialogue on ethical frameworks, regulatory gaps and emerging AI challenges, says Future Shift Labs, a thinking tank that works on upcoming technology, international affairs. Members of Parliament Sujeet Kumar, Shashank Mani, Rabindra Narayan Behera and Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu attended the launch at the Constitution Club in the national capital. “We need a humanistic AI that can reach everywhere and for everyone. The market needs to be decentralized, where AI is in the hands of all and everyone with options and not dominance,” Shashank Mani said during the launch. Mani is a Bharatiya Janata Party -LP in Lok Sabha representing Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. According to the organization behind the idea, AILF empowers lawmakers with insights to produce inclusive, future readiness laws that balance innovation with liability in an increasingly AI-driven world. Rabindra Narayan Behera, the BJP MP of the Jajpur seat, talked about AI and the connection to Hindu mitology. Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, the TDP LP in Lok Sabha, talked about technology used in Agriculture in Andhra Pradesh, where the TDP is the ruling party under chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. Sujeet Kumar, the BJP -LP in Rajya Sabha, talked about the turn of AI. We need a humanistic AI that can reach everywhere and for everyone. The market must be decentralized, where AI is in the hands of all and everyone with options and not dominance. As AI increasingly affects the provision of public services, economic growth and democratic processes, the forum is seeking to bridge a critical gap between India’s rapidly promoting AI ecosystem and its legislative preparedness, SAGAR said the director and co-founder of Future Shift Labs. This initiative will involve 30 legislators annually through compound workshops, fellowships and structured dialogues with experts, enabling informed policymaking about AI’s ethical, development and management dimensions.
