Forget Siri! Confusing AI reveals voting assistant for iOS who is now videos, book rides and more | Mint
Parplexity AI unveiled a major update of his iOS app, with the introduction of confusion assistant, a voice-driven AI feature that allows users to perform everyday tasks directly via their iPhone. From setting up emails and scheduling meetings to discussion rides and playing specific media content, the assistant is an important step towards more intuitive interaction between human AI. The new function is announced by Aravind Srinivas by Aravind Srinivas, and is described as “the first time an AI app can answer questions and take basic actions on your iPhone”. Features supported by Parplexity Assistant, the assistant supports a variety of assignments, including playing hard videos or songs, navigating to a place and even restaurant discussion-all initiated via natural voice questions. For example, users can say, “Play me the video of Katy Perry kissing the ground after landing from the rocket” or “Podcast where Andreessen books with Lex”, and the AI will detect and play the content in question. According to Srinivas, “you can ask to play anything” with a surprising specificity and the boundaries of AI-powered media discovery expanded. Currently, the system is standard at Apple Music for audio version and makes it dependent on Apple Mail and Apple Calendar for email and scheduling features. While Srinivas acknowledged that these integrations are still in the early stage and “a little janky”, he has assured users that the experience stabilizes as soon as it is properly configured. Gmail and Google Calendar support is reportedly in development. Another unique aspect is the ability to use Portlexity Voice mode by allocating it to the iPhone’s action button-which allows a hands-on use without opening the app, just like Apple’s own Siri. The CEO noted that there is a slight delay of 3-4 seconds when the voting mode begins, citing a real-time communication (RTC) problem they want to solve. “You can investigate a place where you want to go and go directly there or navigate to the place,” Srinivas added, highlighting the potential of the assistant to streamline daily routines. The update is now available via the App Store and offers iPhone users a look at what the future of voice-first digital help can be, which is not driven by hardware, but by smart, app-based AI.
