(PTI) Summary It is clear that the center, as modi has accepted power, has aimed much of its resources, energy and focus on dealing with internal and external safety challenges. Last Thursday, a special plane ended up in the technical area of Indira Gandhi International Airport at Palam Airport in New -Delhi. This was very special, as the passengers included elite commandos, officers of the Indian intelligence apparatus and a ‘most wounded’ criminal Tahwaw Hussain Rana, the man who played an important role in planning and orchestrating the Mumbai terror attack of 26 November 2008. That is why he visited India on November 20 and 21, 2008, days before the attack. He completed routes and targets of the attack during the visit by his accomplice David Coleman Headley. This terror attack, the largest on Indian land, claimed the lives of 15 police staff, two NSG commandos and 157 civilians. This left at least another 300 people injured. Ten terrorist-trained terrorists kept Mumbai 72 hours under siege. The chaos they unleashed sent shockwaves through the financial capital of India and drove every Indian at home and abroad. The lives of Indians, except citizens of 24 other countries, were at risk. A combination of exemplary courage and pure happiness helped police catch Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, whose questioning unraveled the involvement of ISI and the conspiracy behind the attack, which had a tremendous influence on our international image and economic activity. International tourists have canceled visits, hotels remained abandoned even in the peak season, and air trip to Mumbai has cut. India has never seen anything like this, which makes Rana’s extradition so critical. It sends the message that India is not a weak nation. We never forget or forgive our enemies. A lot of water flew under the bridge between Kasab’s hanging and the extradition of Rana. A few weeks ago, Abdul Rehman, a key handler of these attackers and a close assistance from Hafiz Saeed, was shot dead in Pakistan by unknown armed men – one of many such incidents involving those who have a bad eye on India. It was not easy to get Rana, a Canadian citizen established in the US. Under US legislation, no foreign agency could directly shift US courts to obtain the extradition of a US citizen. This must submit his case and evidence to the Federal Bureau or Investigation (FBI). Our government agencies have managed to present a waterproof case with evidence that convinced not only the FBI but also top courts in the US. Now Indian agencies will withdraw important information from Rana that could help impede future attacks on Indian land or Indian interests worldwide. Rana’s extradition is not only a success of our legal and security experts, but also our diplomatic channels and their tireless efforts. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi is much invested in the efforts to deliver Rana. On February 13, US President Donald Trump in the presence of Premier Modi publicly announced that he would deliver Rana to India. It is clear that the center, as Modi has accepted power, has ordered much of its resources, energy and focus on dealing with internal and external security challenges. I once asked Manmohan Singh – he was then the Prime Minister of India – which were the most important safety issues that India faced. Singh said that Maoist-led leftist extremism (LWE) is one. Maoist-Lwe is on the retreat today. According to Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah, the “most affected” Naxal districts were now limited to just six. The Dandkaranya pass that Maoists created so well over the decades has been demolished. Last year alone, security forces eliminated 290 Maoists and arrested another 1.090. Another 881 surrendered. The Minister of Home Affairs is personally oversees on the activities and extensive efforts are to rehabilitate Maoists. Kashmir needs a special mention here. Bloodshed has decreased significantly in the valley. When sections 370 and 35A were lifted, Doomsayers warned that the public would come out in anger on the street and that the situation would deteriorate to the point of no return. They have been proven wrong. The law and ordinary situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved, with a body rage against Pakistan’s plans against India and the world convinced that the picture of Kashmir and its inhabitants was produced. Peaceful elections in these regions have again shown that it is the mood in a democracy, not the bullet that determines the outcomes. From Sukma to Srinagar, the message is loud and clear.
