In the government schools of Rajsamand, the sound of children’s laughter is heard after morning prayers, but the education figures tell a different story. The September ranking report of Rajasthan’s director of secondary education made it clear that the education system of the district still awaits improvement. This year, Rajsamand district is at number 15 in the state, which does not mean a place in the top 10 or any new success story. Schools that were once considered ideal are now falling in the rankings. There was a time when the rural schools of Rajsamand were known as “Model Schools”. In the list of 41 districts released by the education department, Rajsamand’s position has dropped to the middle level, while the nearby districts of Chittorgarh (11th) and Dungarpur (6th) are performing better. Why is Rajsamand lagging behind? The education department’s ranking is based on more than 12 parameters – including student attendance, school enrollment growth, Aadhaar verification, quality of education, Paytm presence, playground development and dropout rate. Sources reveal that many blocks of Rajsamand consistently lag behind in these parameters. The situation in Railmagra, Delwara, Kumbhalgarh and Bhim blocks is particularly alarming. He says that a shortage of teachers in schools and a lack of digital equipment affects the education of children. Many blocks have ICT laboratories but there is a shortage of trained staff.
