The US Department of the Treasury’s Office for Foreign Assets (OFAC) has set sanctions on two Indian citizens, Sadiq Abbas Habib Sayyed and Khizar Mohammad Iqbal Shaikh, for their involvement in providing significant quantities of prescription pills full of Fentanyl and other ominous drugs across America. Along with these two people, the body has also identified an online pharmacy in India for its role in these criminal surgeries, a release states. What are the charges against the offenders? Both offenders were linked to Dominican Republic and US traders in narcotics and sold forged pills across the country. They fulfilled the deed by marketing and selling these pills as a discount, legal pharmaceutical products. Upon inspection, however, it was found that these pills were filled with illegal medicines such as Fentanyl, a Fentanyl analog and methamphetamine. Both Sayyed and Shaikh used encrypted messaging platforms to run their illegal business and sell their product to the victims. The offenders were previously charged in September 2024 on charges of anesthetics by a federal jury sitting in the southern district of New York. Unlike that, Shaikh is the owner of KS International Traders (also known as KS Pharmacy), an online pharmacy used to perform these criminal activities. Even after being exposed to his criminal activity in Doj’s accusation of 2024, Shaikh continued to operate the pharmacy, the release states. Why is Fentanyl considered harmful? Fentanyl was the leading cause of the synthetic opioid crisis, which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans. Opioid vocabulary remains the leading cause of death among Americans between 18 and 45 years. Under the US framework for medicine policy, both countries are still working together to address the fatal impact of illegal medicine and to end this threat by combating drug trafficking, improving public health and strengthening global supply chains. “Too many families have been torn apart by Fentanyl. Today we act to keep those who benefit from this poison,” said John K. Hurley, Secretary of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. Mexican Cartelle sourceopodes of online providers in the past few years have fueled America’s Fentanyl crisis online providers of controlled substances, including some in India, by providing illegal fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, as well as related precursor chemicals. Meanwhile, source Mexican cartelle precursor chemicals from these online providers for use in their clandestine fentanyllaboratories have added the release.
