Amit Shah will inaugurate a two-day conference on extradition of fugitive criminals on October 16.
New Delhi, October 15 (IANS). Home Affairs and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate a two-day conference on ‘Extradition of Fugitive Criminals – Challenges and Strategies’ in New Delhi on Thursday. In this conference organized by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), there will be in-depth discussions on strategies to bring fugitive criminals to India and bring them to justice. Senior officials from central and state police agencies, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs and other stakeholders will participate in the conference. The event will focus on strengthening international police cooperation, tracking fugitives and facilitating their extradition. Key points of discussion will include effective use of formal and informal channels, leveraging technology, financial footprint analysis and strategic approach. Special focus will be given to narco, terrorism, cybercrime, organized crime and economic criminals. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India is setting new dimensions in the field of international investigation. Home Minister Amit Shah stressed on a coordinated and time-bound approach to bring back fugitive criminals. CBI has organized this conference precisely for this purpose, so that extradition of fugitives can be made effective through legal and diplomatic channels. Currently, extradition requests of more than 300 Indian fugitives are pending in various countries. These fugitives often use various strategies to avoid extradition. In many cases, criminals associated with organized criminal gangs carry out criminal activities even while living abroad. In this conference, law enforcement agencies and experts will analyze and consider these challenges to draw up a concrete road map. Earlier this year, Amit Shah launched the CBI’s ‘Bharatpol’ portal, which facilitates the exchange of information between district police, state police, central agencies and the CBI. This portal plays an important role in tracking the fugitives. The deliberations at the conference will yield new insights and strategies, which will help to make the process of extradition of fugitive criminals more efficient. This event is an important step towards further strengthening India’s crime control policies at the global level. –IANS AKS/DKP Share this story Tags
