At least eight people sustained injuries to Imhal on Sunday after security forces threw smoking bombs and tear gas to spread protesters who were on their way to the Raj Bhavan over a state. The alleged state of all asked to remove ‘Manipur’ from a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus that works at the Shirui festival in Ukhrul, reports The Hindustan Times. According to the report, the protesters gathered at Khwairamband Keithel after receiving a call from the Coordination Committee for Manipur Integrity (Cocomi), an umbrella body from Meitei groups, to set up a mass protest on the Raj Bhawan. However, they were stopped by the security personnel 500 meters after March near Kangla Western Gate, which fired smoke bombs to distribute them. At least eight were injured in the incident. The injured, including women, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Why did the protesters march to Raj Bhawan? The protesters planned to draw up the excitement apologizing from Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla for his refusal to apologize for the removal of the state’s name from the government bus. The Cocomi has announced that it will perform a nationwide protest march. It also asked for the resignation of the general secretary, the director -general of the Police (DGP) and the security adviser. Cocomi to meet the Ministry of Home Affairs officials will meet a seven-member delegation from Cocomi on Tuesday in New Delhi and the current situation in the state, especially the drive over hiding the state’s name on a government bus in Gwaltabi, said convener Khuraijam Athou. He said that the agenda for the meeting included the claim for a public apology from Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the Gwaltabi incident and the removal of the general secretary, DGP and security adviser. “The Central Government and Cocomi communicated. The Interior Ministry has expanded an invitation to Cocomi (Coordination Committee for Manipur Integrity) for an exclusive meeting. The meeting is planned on Tuesday,” Athouba said. “Our goal is to promote the pending political and safety processes regarding the prolonged crisis. However, the agenda has now expanded in the light of the recent Gwaltabi incident and the resulting public unrest,” he added. He repeated the claim for resignation or transfer from the top three officers and claimed to be “unable to be and responsible for taking counter -states that contributed to the weakened situation”.
