Ar Murugadoss reflects on the failure of Sikandar: 'I couldn't do it well'

Award -winning filmmaker AR Murugadoss opened about the emotional weight of his recent Bollywood project ‘Sikandar’, and admits that the film does not appear to be the way he hoped. The director of Sikandar sheds light on why the film did not work in a candid interview with Velaipechu Voice, the director talked honestly about the challenges he faced and the personal toll it took on him. “The story was about a king who never really valued his wife. Only after her death, when her organs are donated to three people, does he try to fulfill what he couldn’t do for her. It was deeply emotional, but I couldn’t do it well, ‘Murugadoss said. Murugadoss, known for his success with ‘Ghajini’ – the 2008 hit with Aamir Khan – admitted that making a film from an original screenplay like ‘Sikandar’ was much more difficult. “I could pull out Ghajini because it was a remake. With Sikandar, that wasn’t the case, ‘he thought. Despite the disappointment, the director does not turn his back on the Hindi cinema. He expressed hope for a return under the right circumstances. “I will definitely return to the Hindi cinema if I find my comfort zone. But if audiences do not contact my thinking, it affects me deeply, ‘he notes. Murugadoss remains a respected figure in the Indian theater, especially in the Tamil industry, where he has delivered several hits. His honest remarks created a conversation online, with many praising his openness about failure and creative struggle. Ar Murugadoss’ Work Front The director will do ‘Madharaasi’. It is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language psychological action thriller written and directed by AR Murugadoss. Backed by Sri Lakshmi Movies, the movie Murugadoss’s first collaboration with actor Sivakartikeyan. The cast contains Sivakartikeyan in the lead role, along with Vidyut Jammal, Biju Menon, Vikranth, Shabeer Kallarakkal and Rukmini Vasanth. Supporting roles are played by Prem Kumar, Sanjay and Sachana Namidass. The project, which was initially announced in September 2023 among the work titles of SKXARM and SK23, received quickly attention when it brought together two important names in Tamil Cinema for the first time. The music’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with films by Supeep Elamon and editing by A. Seekar Prasad. Madharaasi is ready for theater release on September 5, 2025.
