Attorney General Reveals the Story Behind the Issuance of the Presidential Decree on Prosecutor Protection

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 66 of 2025 on state protection of prosecutors in the performance of the duties and functions of the prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Indonesia so that prosecutors receive protection from the TNI and Polri. Attorney General ST Burhanuddin said the urgency of this presidential decision. Burhanuddin initially said that prosecutors actually already have a law that regulates the protection of prosecutors and their families. However, because this was debatable, the Attorney General’s office at the time asked the military for security. “Indeed, there are debatable reasons why a goal is not achieved. Yes, we are asking the army to take a security approach to us,” Burhanuddin told detikcom on the Pradana Traces program aired on Thursday (15/10/2025). SCROLL TO CONTINUE CONTENT Burhanuddin emphasized that the security provided by the army was pure security. He emphasized that this had nothing to do with law enforcement carried out by the AGO. “These security, security measures, have nothing to do with the law enforcement that we carry out, there is no interference, just security so that implementation goes properly, then we also get protection,” he said. He said this security is only necessary so that prosecutors can work in peace. He asked the public not to speculate about this security. “Thank God, we are running, and indeed there are some yes and no that are debatable, there are some yes and no, but it must continue. And for us, we just want to work quietly, carry out tasks for the benefit of the community, that is the only goal,” he explained. Furthermore, he acknowledged that prosecutors have faced a lot of turmoil lately. That’s why he asked for strict protection from the prosecutor’s office. “There will definitely be disturbances, but what we face is not only the criminals lying around, the little ones, we are already big, of course those who have a lot of money can do anything to the prosecutor, the safety of the prosecutor is certain, if they have a lot of money. So we ask the public to understand that we are not targeting the pressure, because he is only targeting anything. Pradana’s footsteps are a portrait of the first year’s dedication to the country.
