AWS Outage Impacts Fortnite, Fallout 76, and More: Latest Updates

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been experiencing outages today, which impact workflow applications, web hosting, and a lot more. AWS is a critical pillar of much of the internet as a whole, so when something is seriously wrong, you will feel it one way or another. For the gaming crowd, it’s been causing issues for FortniteFallout 76and more.
Epic Games even chimed in X to let people know that Fortnite was experiencing issues around the world. As Amazon continues to update enterprise owners and users alike, problems have grown to the tune of 6.5 million reports of issues. While it is common for many games to have connectivity issues, this overarching AWS outage seems to have impacted multiple communities.
Fortnite & Fallout 76 Are Impacted, Among Others
AWS Outages Rage Across Multiple Industries
This morning, fans tried to log in Fortnite and were greeted by error messages, which, as is customary, were promptly acknowledged by the team at Epic Games. According to Amazon, these issues were being worked on early in the US morning and partially resolved, but many users are still reporting login errors or server problems in the early afternoon. Users of Roblox, Pokémon GoSupercell games, Fallout 76and other titles have been experiencing connectivity errors as well.
Naturally, this goes beyond the gaming sector. Apps impacted include:
-
Snapchat
-
Signal
-
Robinhood
-
McDonald’s
-
United Airlines
-
Starbucks
-
T-Mobile

This morning, Amazon announced it was “investigating increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region,” which is where the problems apparently started. The last big AWS outage was back in 2023 (and prior to that, 2021), but as is the case with all web services, there have been intermittent issues since then.
While a lot of the big problems are behind us, a lot of cleanup will be taking place across multiple organizations as they bounce back.
Hopefully Everything Is Settled Today
Several Services Are Continuing To Work Through Issues
While some games are back online, other sectors are not so lucky. Some impacted enterprise apps are still spotty in terms of connectivity. Airlines have also reported issues with their internal systems, and anecdotally, I’ve heard reports of some point of sale (POS) registers being down, preventing sales.
As of the time of publication I was able to log into Fortniteso some of the issues have indeed been resolved. But keep an eye out if you’re looking to jump into your favorite game today.
