Bangladesh Cec warns officials not to support political parties in February election

Dhaka, October 7 (IANS). Bangladesh Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) Amm Nasir Uddin issued a strict warning on Tuesday before the February 2026 general election, saying that officials who support political parties in the next year’s election will perform. He made this statement during the concluding speech of a dialogue held with election experts at the Bhawan election in Dhaka. Leading Bengali Daily Pratham Alo, Bangladesh, quoted the Chief Electoral Commissioner and said: “Now the message is different from the previous message. The previous message was that if you won’t work for me, if you work for someone, action will be done. Nasir Uddin said the Electoral Commission (EC) would seek proposals from former commission officials with practical experience in election management to protect the election process against fraud and manipulation. The Chief Electoral Commissioner said during the interaction: “We will listen to those who worked at grassroots level. Many of you have experience of how election fraud can be committed. After working in the Electoral Commission for years, you can advise us where and how rigs occur so that we can stop them.” Last month, Nasir Uddin said that the election commission faces serious challenges in the current situation of the country. The Chief Electoral Commissioner said that the Electoral Commission in the Dhaka Electoral Commission addressed the election officials conference-2025 at Nirvachan Bhavan in Dhaka, and that the Electoral Commission faces with very direct and indirect obstacles while preparing for the general election of next year and different demands. Prothom Alo quoted the chief election commissioner and said: “It is very difficult to work in Bangladesh, especially in the situation the country is going through. It’s very easy for some people to find work, but it’s difficult for most people. This is the situation the country is now.” Earlier in August, Nasir Uddin emphasized that the election authorities must maintain complete neutrality during the national elections of next year, which he described as the most challenging election in the country. Bangladesh is surrounded by uncertainty and political conflicts before the next general election. Political parties who worked with Mohammad Yunus to expel the democratically elected Awami League government led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are now about to reform on reform proposals. -—IANS DKP/
