Several people, including journalists, were injured in violent clashes between students at Dhaka University (Du) and Dhaka College in Bangladesh in Neelkk and new market areas of the capital. According to local media, the violence began with a dispute over the erection of stores on the footpath in front of Du’s Shahnawaz residence, which later became a scramble and violent clash between the two parties. With a view to eyewitnesses, the leading daily newspaper of Bangladesh, the Business Standard, threw both groups of bricks and stones, causing chaos in the area. Reports indicate that the explosions occurred amid violence while Du students demanded better security, and police intervened to restore order. Mohammad Jahangir, assistant commissioner of the new market zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the development, saying: “A change broke out, which was followed by a collision. Due to insufficient police presence, additional forces had to be called. After much effort, the situation was brought under control. ‘ As for the reported explosions, the senior police officer said that there was no confirmation whether the explosives were rough bombs or not. After the incident, students from Shahnawaz Hostel gathered outside the Du Vice -Chancellor’s home and began raising slogans demanding security.
