BBMB sought approval from states to restore the nangal channel

According to sources, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) sought permission from the partner statements to close the Nangal Hydrotic channel for recovery after the recent rain. BBMB provides Bhakra, Nangal and Pong dams. The partners are Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh who share Beas and Sutlej Water. The Nangal Water Power Channel runs for 64 kilometers from Nangal to Ropar and then the Bhakra is connected to the main line channel, which takes Sutlej water to the partner states. If the partners allow the state’s hydroelectric channel to be banned, the Bhakra Dam projects will disrupt the water supply to Haryana and Rajasthan. The BBMB has called on partner statements to allow the hydroelectric channel as it needs to be restored immediately. On condition of anonymity, a senior official said that the actual assessment of the damage would only be possible after the channel is completely closed. “If the partner statements are allowed, it will take at least 25 days to restore the channel, even after day and night repairs. Several sources of the Bhakra channel condition said the real challenge will be the recovery of the Bhakra main channel, as it is” much worse “than the water power channel.
