State Councils, Corporations will operate 240 remaining liquor stores: Minister

The Himachal government has decided to run 240 liquor stores that have not been appointed in five districts through its boards and corporations to protect the government box from damage. The Minister of Industry, Harshvardhan Chauhan, said here today: “To prevent the damage to the Treasury, the state government decided to manage 240 liquor stores that could not be awarded during the open auction. Despite repeated efforts, the prices offered at the auction were 20 percent to 30 percent less than the base price.” He chaired the meeting of the Council of Directors of the General Industries Corporation (GIC) and Himachal Pradesh Small Industries Development Corporation (HPSIDC) to approve two public sector companies to manage these stores after completing the formalities. She said that these stores, some of which are in rural areas, could not be sold at an open auction, as the contractors were of the opinion that they were financially impractical. He said the contractors described the price of 20 percent to 30 percent less than the base price. He said: “The Cabinet has decided that the state government councils and businesses will run 240 liquor stores that are not sold at five districts at the auction. Agro Industries Corporation, GIC, HPSIDC, Forest Corporation, Civil Supplies Corporation and Himfad will manage these liquor stores.” Chauhan said that the managing directors (MDS) of the corporations were asked to complete all formalities to manage liquor stores without selling liquor. “We have given financial rights to rent stores and appoint employees on an outsourced basis,” he said, “he said.
