Bengal: NCW takes Suo Motu knowledge of Durgapur medical student rape

Kolkata, October 11 (IANS). The National Commission for Women (NCW) took Suo Motu knowledge of the incident of gang rape of a second -year medical student from Odisha. An incident of rape of a student occurred on Friday night outside a private medical college in Durgapur in the Western Burdwan district in Western Bengals. Vijaya Rahatkar, chairman of the National Commission for Women (NCW), wrote a letter to the West Bengale Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar in which he immediately demanded the accused, quick and transparent investigation and medical and psychological support for the victim. “To ensure effective monitoring, the chairman of Archana Majumdar will meet the victim in Durgapur and review the police action. The commission sought an ‘action report’ within five days,” the NCW said in a statement. Here, the police in Western Bengals have issued a statement warning people not to share any unverified information in this matter. Police said: “We are deeply saddened by the sexual assault on a medical student from Odisha in Durgapur. We all want to ensure that the culprits will definitely be punished. The victim’s pain is just as much as us of Odisha. still maintain his zero -tolerance policy on crimes against women. Crime such as rape requires the strongest condemnation and most stringent law, the central government elected the delay over duty in the aparayita bill.
