Jakarta -Coordination of Minister of Infrastructure and Development of Indonesian Seniority Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), made the opening remarks during the 4th Brics Urbidding Forum held in the Itiaraty Palace, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Brazil is holding the leadership of Brics this year and hosts a number of forums that will reach its peak at 6-7 July 2025 at the Brics Summit, which will be attended directly by the heads of government of Brics member countries. In this forum that brought together ministers and delegates from member states and Brics partners, Ahy emphasizes the importance of global cooperation in facing the challenges of urbanization and climate change. “As a country with the fourth largest population in the world, Indonesia is here to bring hope and responsibilities in shaping a more just, tough and sustainable future,” Ahy said in a written statement on Wednesday (6/25/2025). He emphasized the two major pressure facing many countries, including Indonesia,, namely the very rapid rate of urbanization and the risk of climate change is becoming increasingly clear. Ahy revealed that more than half of the population of Indonesia is currently living in the city, and that the number will increase to 70% in 2045. “We need to ensure the growth of an inclusive and tough city. No one should be left behind,” Ahy said. Indonesia, says Ahy, encourages an integrated approach that connects soil, housing, transport, water and energy into a sustainable infrastructure system. “Each investment is designed to provide different benefits: decent employment, stronger toughness, higher dignity and sustainable wealth,” Ahy explained. On this occasion, Ahy also encouraged collaboration between Brics member states to share their respective innovations and benefits in the management of urbanization. He cites a number of examples, ranging from social housing in Brazil, city -resistant city technology of Russia to the connectivity of the islands developed by Indonesia. “Brics have the potential to become a global change car. Indonesia is ready to contribute through data, pilot projects and practical policies,” Ahy said. “Together we can form an inclusive urban future, tough for the climate and rooted in the priorities and innovations of the global southern countries,” he concluded.
