David Byrne announces a new album 'Who's the Sky?', Unveils 2025 World Tour Plans | Mint

David Byrne unveiled details of his first new solo album in six years. The album, entitled ‘Who’s the Sky?’ This is the return from Byrne to recording since its award-winning American Utopia in 2018. The album was produced by Grammy-winning producer Kid Harpoon, especially known for his work with Harry Styles and Miley Cyrus. It contains 12 songs arranged by the New York-based room group Ghost Train Orchestra. Special gas appearances include St. Vincent, Hayley Williams of Paramore, and Smile’s drummer Tom Skinner. The first single, “Everybody Laughs,” is already available with his official video directed by multimedia artist Gabriel Barcia-Colombo. Byrne talked about the cut and said, “I use the word ‘everyone’ to reflect life in New York. Everyone laughs, cries and stares at the ceiling. The song touches these things in a way that still feels uplifting.” Producer Kid Harpoon added: “It took time to realize how personal these songs are. David has a unique way to see the world, and it comes through in every cut.” Byrne will also return to the stage with a new live show to support the album. The tour group contains 13 artists – musicians, singers and dancers – many of whom were part of the celebrated ‘American Utopia’ show that toured worldwide and adapted by Spike Lee for Broadway and HBO. The North American tour begins in September, followed by dates in Australia and New Zealand in January 2026, and a European and British leg that begins the following month.
