Bhool Chuk Maaf Ott Release: Raj Kumar Rao’s film will not be released at OTT after Bombay HC decision | Mint

The Bombay High Court temporarily remained the release of Raj Kumar Rao star film “Bhool Chuk Maaf” at OTT or any other platform on Saturday, May 10. According to reports, the court prevented Maddock films from the release of ‘Bhook Chuk Maaf’ at OTT platforms before completing the consensual 8-week theater run with PVR Inox. The ruling came after PVR Inox approached the court following the announcement of Maddock Films that the film would skip its theater exemption as a result of ‘increased security drills across the country’ and go directly to Amazon Prime video on May 16, the news agency Ani reports. What is the case? Maddock Films announced on May 8 – a few days after the Pahalgam terror attack and operation Sindoor – that, along with Amazon MGM Studios, it decided to bring “Our Family -Tainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16 – only on prime video, worldwide.” Maddock Films’ statement said the decision was made “in light of recent events and the increased security drills across the country” amid the conflict in India-Pakistan. After the announcement, Multiplex Chain PVR Inox moved the court and challenged the producers’ decision to release it on OTT instead of theaters. It demanded that the film be released first in theaters. PVR Inox claims a breach of contract by the producers, Maddock Films. It is said that the change at the last minute was a clear violation of their contract, signed on May 6, 2025. They also pointed out that the agreement included a 8 -week window before the film could flock online. What according to the contract according to the May 6 agreement, the film would be released in theaters on May 9 and would not be released for a period of eight weeks afterwards. “But the producers ended the agreement just a day before the release and announced an OTT release on May 16,” PVR’s lawyer Dinyar Madon. Meanwhile, Maddock’s lawyer Venkatesh Dhond said that the eight-week “Hackback” clause would only apply if there is a theater release. What did the court rule? A Bench of Justice Arif doctor said Friday that PVR Inox has fulfilled its obligations by promoting the film, booking screens and providing tickets to its consumers, and a sudden cancellation will affect the ‘reputation and goodwill’. In an interim order (order accepted before the final decision), the court withheld Maddock films to release the film on any platform until eight weeks after the theater release in PVR theaters. The Supreme Court scheduled the case for further hearing on June 16 and asked Maddock to submit his answer in the meantime. Bhool Chuk Maaf, directed and written by Karan Sharma, contains Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi for the first time on the screen.
