Lokesh Sharma, New Delhi. Preparations have begun to celebrate Chhath Puja, the great festival of folk faith in Delhi, this year with great pomp and devotion. The administration became fully active regarding ghats decoration, security arrangements and cleanliness campaign in different parts of the capital. From the district administration to the local committees, they are busy finalizing the preparations, so that the devotees can worship the Sun without any inconvenience. Officials in the New Delhi and Central Delhi districts themselves have started taking up the preparations. Regular meetings are going on at the places where ghats are being built. The administration has also issued instructions that strict arrangements should be made for cleanliness, adequate lighting and security at the ghats. A total of 36 committees applied to build Chhath Ghat in the district of New Delhi. Of these, 23 committees have received No Objection Certificate (NOC), while the approval process for 13 applications is in the final stage. The district administration says that permission will be given to all other committees in the next one or two days. 49 committees have applied to organize Chhath Puja in Central Delhi. Most of these have been approved. This time the focus of the administration is especially on safety and cleanliness. Authorities have issued instructions to set up tents, toilets, lights and medical aid centers along the banks of water bodies. Main Chhath Ghat will be constructed in these areas. Devotees will worship Sun God at places like Mukundpur, ITO, Vasudev Ghat, Burari, Wazirabad village, Parshuram Enclave, Takshmi Vihar, Amrit Vihar, Tiranga Chowk in Natthu Colony, Sangam Vihar, Tikona Park, Sant Nagar and Shyam Ghat etc. in Central Delhi. While in the district of New Delhi, ghats are being built in many areas including Indrapuri, Mahipalpur, Mayapuri Phase-2, Narena town, Ghitorni, RK Puram, Vasant Vihar, Sarojini Nagar and Todapur. The administration has directed the concerned agencies to set up temporary control rooms around the ghats and Delhi Jal Board, MCD, Fire Brigade and health services should be deployed. Apart from this, the electricity department has been asked to ensure uninterrupted lighting. District administration said that Chhath festival is a symbol of diversity and unity of Delhi. Every year lakhs of devotees reach the ghats to worship the Sun God. This time the administration is trying to ensure that no devotee is inconvenienced.
