Bihar election: CPI's historical dominance of Teghra sciles, will politics change in 2025?
Begusarai, October 12 (IANS). Preparations for the Bihar meeting election are in full swing. This time, a fight is seen between the ruling NDA and the opposition India Bloc for one seat. In such a situation, the election of the Begusarai Teghra meeting will be very important, which is regarded as an old fortress of the Communist Party of India (CPI). Teghra, an important subdivision of Begusarai, is very interesting from the point of view of election history. This constituency of the meeting, founded in 1951, was known as ‘Teghra’ until 1967. Thereafter, the name was changed to ‘Barauni’ and through the decision of the Demarcation Commission of 2008, the name returned to ‘Teghra’. A total of 15 elections took place six times in the name ‘Teghra’ and ‘Barauni’ nine times. The dominance of the CPI on this seat remained firm. Despite the weakening of the CPI’s support base in Bihar and other parts of the country, the region remains one of the strongholds of the party. CPI has won nine elections of the ‘Barauni’ period. This trend, which began in 1962, continued until 2005 when the party achieved its 10th consecutive victory. The congress captured it earlier in 1952 and 1957. Regional changes after the 2008 demarcation disputed the CPI’s hold. In 2010, BJP won the seat, while it was won by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in 2015. CPI stood third in that election. But in 2020, CPI got this seat under the Grand Alliance and the party created history for the 11th time by defeating the candidate of Janata Dal United (JDU) with a large margin of 47.979 votes. Here are prominent about the local issues of Teghra meeting, flood control, agricultural crisis and migration. In 2020, there were more than 63 percent votes, which also increases hope this time. Geographically, Teghra is located on the banks of Budhi Gandak, while River Ganga flows near. Despite being just 6 kilometers from the Barauni industrial village, 80 percent of the population here is dependent on agriculture. Teghra meeting has a total population of 4,96,245, which includes 2,62,488 men and 2,33,757 women. A total of 3,05,595 names are registered in the voters list, of which 1,60,366 are men, 1,45,217 women and 12 are third gender voters. This data was prepared for a special intensive review, which took place for the first time since 2003. -We Sch/Abm
