There are around 3.10 lakh voters in the Tarapur assembly constituency. This seat is considered to be dominated by the Kushwaha (Kuri) community. There are 15.1 percent Scheduled Castes and 6.8 percent Muslim voters here. The number of voters of the Vaishya community is around 40 thousand. Shakuni Chaudhary’s political influence in Tarapur is well known. He himself has been MLA six times from here. His wife also won once. Shakuni Chaudhary retired from politics in 2019, exactly four years after his defeat in the 2015 elections. His son Samrat Chaudhary is the Deputy CM of Bihar and a senior BJP leader. 25 candidates were in fray in Bihar Elections 2020. A total of 25 candidates were in fray in the 2020 assembly elections. RJD has given a ticket to Divya Prakash, daughter of senior RJD leader Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav. JDU made Mewalal Chaudhary its candidate. Mevalal got a total of 64,468 votes. While Divya Prakash got 57,243 votes. JDU candidate won the election with a margin of 7,225 votes. Meena Devi, LJP candidate, got 11,264 votes. MLA Mewalal died suddenly in 2021. Following this, in the Tarapur by-election, JDU fielded Rajiv Kumar Singh, while RJD made Arun Kumar Sah its candidate. Rajiv got a total of 79,090 votes. Arun Sah had 75,238 votes in his account. This time in the election, senior BJP leader from the Kushwaha community along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary of the NDA are in the fray themselves. While the Grand Alliance was unable to decide on its candidate due to entanglement in the distribution of seats. This time the voters here are also keeping an eye on who will be the candidate of the Grand Alliance from this Assembly. History of Tarapur Assembly seat: Congress has won a total of five times from Nirala Tarapur seat. Shakuni Choudhary won RJD thrice. Samata Party won twice, JDU won four times. CPI, Janata Party, Shoshit Party and Samyukta Socialist Party won once each. Shakuni Chaudhary dominated the Tarapur Assembly seat. He became MLA six times from here. Basukinath Rai and Tarini Prasad Singh won twice each. Mewalal Chaudhary became MLA twice and his wife Neeta Chaudhary once. Jai Mangal Singh, Vijay Narayan Prashant, Kaushalya Devi and Narayan Yadav also won once. While Rajeev Kumar Singh won once from here.
