Biharsharif assembly seat is part of Nalanda Lok Sabha constituency. It includes Biharsharif and Rahui blocks. Being the district headquarters, this area is considered important both from the point of view of administration and politics. Bihar Sharif is the hometown of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, but this seat is currently held by BJP. Bihar Sharif city is situated on the banks of the Panchane River at the foothills of Badi Hill. Its topography is mainly flat, which also includes some hilly areas. This area is historically and culturally rich since ancient times. This area was an important center during the reign of the Pala dynasty and was home to Odantapuri Mahavihara, the oldest Buddhist educational institution after Nalanda Mahavihara. At its peak, around 12,000 students from India and surrounding areas came to study. At the end of the 12th century it was destroyed by the Turkish invader Muhammad bin Bakhtiyar Khilji. The name of the city Bihar Sharif is said to be derived from ‘Vihar’ (monastery) and later ‘Sharif’ was added in the 13th century in honor of Sufi saint Sheikh Makhdoom Sharfuddin Ahmed Yahiya Maneri. Many historical and religious places are located in the Biharsharif assembly constituency. Among these Badi Dargah and Khanqah, Baba Maniram Akhara, Shitala Temple, Maghada, Tomb of Malik Ibrahim Baryo, Mora Talab and Tetrawan are prominent. These places are not only centers of religious faith but also reflect the richness of local culture and history. Biharsharif Assembly Constituency was formed in 1951.
