Black Phone 2 Becomes Blumhouse’s First 2025 Movie To Cross $45 Million Globally

Black Phone 2 becomes Blumhouse‘s first 2025 movie to pass a key box office milestone. The studio’s reputation for putting out original horror-thriller films has made it one of the most profitable brands in Hollywood. As a result, it has produced major franchises, such as Insidious, The Purgeand Paranormal Activity.

Despite their box office prestige in the past, Blumhouse has had a rough year with its 2025 slate. From the Wolf Man remake to the original thriller Dropeach of their 2025 releases underwhelmed at the box office and struggled to get to the break-even point. However, it appears that Blumhouse’s box office slump may finally come to an end.

According to The Numbers, Black Phone 2 has now crossed $48 million globally at the box office. This means that the horror sequel becomes Blumhouse’s first 2025 movie to pass the $45 million milestone in just under one week of its release.

Releasing on October 17, Black Phone 2 debuted with $27 million domestically. The box office is a slight increase from the original 2022 hit, which made $23 million during its opening weekend. Starring Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, and Madeleine McGraw, the first movie collected a total of $161 million, and its box office success pushed for the sequel to be greenlit.

The horror follow-up has siblings Finney (Thames) and Gwen (McGraw) facing Hawke’s The Grabber once again, whose spirits have come to haunt them. Scott Derrickson also returns to write and direct the sequel, alongside screenwriter C. Robert Cargill.

While Black Phone 2 was able to break Blumhouse’s disappointing streak, it’s difficult to predict how much the sequel will make by the end of its run. Even with the current milestone, the horror movie still has ways to go to reach its break-even point, which could be around $70-80 million.

On the other hand, Black Phone 2 will face competition during its second weekendincluding Regretting You (also starring Thames)Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhereand Blue Moon (also starring Hawke). Nevertheless, current projections estimate that Black Phone 2 will secure the top spot during its second weekend and is expected to pull $17.7 million.

For now, there are no confirmations about Black Phone 3although some stars have expressed their interest in returning. Hawke has shared his interest in a third installment, saying: “I would like to go to hell with the Grabber.”

At this rate, Black Phone 2 will likely become Blumhouse’s first hit in 2025. This will likely continue with the highly anticipated Five Nights at Freddy’s 2which will release on December 5. Thus, it seems that the wheels have finally turned for Blumhouse, with just a few months left of 2025.

Black Phone 2 is now playing in theaters.
