Bobby Nasution offers different investment potential in Northern Sumatra to Indian investors
Jakarta -Governor of Northernsumatra (Sumut) Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution welcomes the Indian government’s plan to invest in the Northern Sumatra Province. The Northern Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov) also offers different superior potential to stakeholders, to encourage economic growth and create jobs for the community. “Northern Sumatra is the gateway to West Indonesia. That’s why we offer different opportunities to investors, especially from India, to invest here,” Bobby said in a written statement on Tuesday (14/10/2025). Bobby conveyed this when he met with the Indian Consul General (Consul General) in the Medan Ravi Shanker Goel and his Entourage, in the Serdangai Pavilion, North Sumatra Fair (Prsu), Tapian Daya, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Medan, Monday (13/10). In addition, North Sumatra also has sufficient support infrastructure, such as Kualatanjung Harbor and Kualanamu International Airport, which are important gates for trade and logistics in the western region of Indonesia. Bobby also touched the health sector as one of the development priorities in Northern Sumatra. According to him, the Northern Sumatra Provincial Government has launched the Universal Health Covering (UHC) program, making it easier to access health services through an integrated data system, and the benefits have now been felt by the wider community, especially the disadvantaged. “We welcome the investment plans from India, especially as the relationship between the two countries is well established,” says Bobby. Furthermore, Bobby explained plans to develop the Northern Sumatra industrial area in Batubara Regency with an area of about 2500 hectares. This area has a strategic position because it is near Kuala Tanjung Port that has the international Hubpoort status. “We have prepared this area for investors interested in investing. The land belongs to the Northern Sumatra Provincial Government and is managed by Bumd, so the investment process will be easier and more transparent,” Bobby explained. Meanwhile, the Consul General of India Ravi Shanker Goel expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome of the Northern Sumatra Provincial Government. Ravi considers Northern Sumatra as a province that is comfortable, friendly and has a dynamic, diverse society. In fact, according to him, quite a few people of Indian descent have lived in this province for a long time. Ravi also expressed his hope that direct flights between Kualanamu Airport and India could be opened in the future without transporting on Searcharno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta. According to Ravi, it will strengthen the economic and tourism ties between the two regions. “We will transfer the results of this meeting to the government of India and also promote investment opportunities in Northern Sumatra, which has many leading tourist destinations such as Lake Toba, Bukit Lawang, Tangkahan and others,” Ravi said. After the meeting, Bobby and Ravi agreed to follow up the investment communication plan through technical discussions between Indian entrepreneurs and the Northern Sumatra Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
