Boruto’s Alternate Future Himawari Death Rivals the Tragic Death of Neji

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #27!While it’s taken years for the Naruto sequel to truly spin a captivating narrative, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has increasingly proven it’s up to the task. The threat of the Divine Trees has proven multifaceted beyond simply its most prominent leader, Jura, with Inojin Yamanaka learning firsthand of their grim potential. Boruto confirms Himawari will die in the future.

However, as noted in previous chapters, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has introduced multiple timelines to its plot, effectively creating a multiverse of possibilities. With the original chapter #13 revelation, this makes this latest tragedy preventable, although it’ll push characters to their limits to prevent this. If not stopped, it’ll be the most heartbreaking Naruto death since Neji Hyuga.

Boruto Just Confirmed an Upcoming Tragedy for a Main Character

As part of Koji Kashin’s Prescience ability, a future confirming Himawari Uzumaki’s death is heavily implied, as part of his plans to train Inojin to fight Mamushi, one of the sentient Divine Trees. Koji frames it as an incident Inojin will want to avenge, telling him that this alternate future Inojin concocted the new jutsu to achieve such purposes.

It’s unlikely that Himawari would die even so soon in a fight against Mamushi, but Koji is content to tell Inojin about this possibility, not just to stop Himawari’s death, but to accelerate Inojin’s growth. With Mamushi able to multiply similarly to Shadow Clones but not losing chakra or strength, instead diminishing intelligence, making Inojin a perfect counter.

Given Himawari’s training with Kurama to unlock her abilities more akin to a Tailed Beast than a typical Jinchuriki, it’d not make sense to tease these details and then ultimately to kill her off. Instead, this future death will motivate Inojin to learn a new technique, “superior to the Mind Transmission Jutsu”. Thus, this alternate future inspires a deadly trap.

An Underrated Naruto Clan Gets a Massive Power-Up for Vengeance

While the Yamanaka clan’s jutsu has performed well in the past, including an integral part of the Ino-Shika-Cho formation across generations, it’s not quite as effective on its own. While invaluable to Konoha’s Sensory Unit, the Yamanaka’s technique appears to have an upgrade on their hands, as teased in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #27.

As Koji Kashin lays out, drawing Mamushi to Konoha will inherently limit the Divine Tree’s offensive capabilities. Mamushi holds back due to wanting to prevent Jura’s wrath should he go on a rampage in the village. However, with Eida still there, Mamushi ultimately can’t help being drawn to her to consume her. The village will soon become Mamushi’s cage.

Able to replicate endless copies of himself with no decrease in strength or chakra, Mamushi’s intelligence is what is sacrificed for so many clones as revealed in chapter #27. Taking out both of his Rinnegan Eyes will prevent this multiplication, and 20-30 copies are deemed by Koji as the sweet spot. This seems to be where Inojin comes in.

It wouldn’t be exaggerating to say it’ll be the key in the upcoming battle against Mamushi.

It’s a superior version of the Mind Transmission Jutsu. And the reason we invited you here.

– Koji Kashi

With a “superior” version of the Mind Transmission Jutsu, Inojin will likely be able to control these Mamushi clones en masse, provided they don’t multiply out of control. It’s uncertain just the extent of this new ability, but Koji is confident it’ll be “the key” to winning against Mamushi, creating the next key victory after Sarada’s win over Ryu.

Nor for whether Himawari’s death will ultimately happen in the current timeline, it’s difficult to predict. It’s highly unlikely, but with Koji’s confirmation, it has happened in one possible future, showing how much more training she still needs. Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has plenty of exciting turns ahead, and appears intent on bringing new life into its underused clans.
