Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express train (number 12204) going from Ludhiana to Delhi caught fire near Sirhind railway station on Saturday morning. The train had barely moved half a kilometer from Sirhind station when passengers saw smoke coming from a compartment. The train was immediately stopped and railway staff started rescue operations. According to a local police officer, the police and railway teams reached the spot as soon as the information was received. The passengers were taken out safely. He said the situation is now completely under control and all the passengers are safe. Railway officials said the incident took place around 7.30 am. As soon as the fire was detected, the railway staff took immediate action, evacuated the concerned coach and the fire was brought under control with the help of fire brigade teams. He said the fire was confined to a limited area and was quickly extinguished. “A coach of Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express (12204) caught fire at Sirhind station. Railway officials immediately shifted the passengers to other coaches and the fire was doused. No passengers were injured. The train will leave for its destination soon,” an official railway statement said. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Railway and police teams are present at the scene and the track is being repaired. Preparations are being made to send the train back to the passengers after a short delay. Share this story Tags
