621 schools in Himachal Pradesh will be closed, merge or downgrade
The Directorate of School Education has identified 621 primary to senior secondary schools to mark, merge and downgrade due to zero or neglect entry. Minister of Education Rohit Thakur immediately approved 103 schools with zero entries at the Department of Education’s Judgment Meeting here today. Rohit Thakur said: “We will send a proposal to Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu for the final decision to merge and downgrade the remaining 518 schools.” The government has already dampened or merged more than 1,200 schools. The number of such schools will cross 1,800 after the latest proposal from the Education Department has been approved by the Chief Minister. The opposition has criticized the closure of schools on such a large scale, but the Minister of Education calls it a claim for the hour. Thakur said: “If we do not give quality education to our children, we will jeopardize their future. And this is only possible through integration and rationalization of our resources.” Although a large number of schools have been released or merged over the past two years, state students have recorded a significant improvement in the latest ASER report. The results of Class X and Class XII were also much better than the previous year. The Minister of Education further stated that more than 1100 teachers will be freed from cancellation, merger and downgrading of these 621 schools. Thakur said: “We will send these teachers to remote areas where there is a shortage of teachers.” There is a shortage of teachers in rural areas of many districts, especially Shimla, Chamba, Syrmaur and Kullu districts. The recent efforts by the department to rationalize the deployment of teachers did not succeed, mainly due to political coercion. The minister said: “We are preparing a new rationalization plan that will be favorable for teachers. Deputy directors in all districts are working on it.” In addition, the minister said it was decided to punish the principals and principals, where the result would be less than 25 percent. The minister said: “So far, only teachers and lecturers have been punished for poor results. Now we have decided to punish higher officials for poor results.” Share this story -tags
