Algeria collects half billion dollars from the sale of the fifth generation licenses
Algeria sold more than $ 492 million (65 billion Algerian Dinars) from the sale of the fifth generation service licenses (5G) to the three communications operating in the country, according to the results of the auction announced today by the mail and electronic communications authority. Mohamed Al -hadi Hanashi, chairman of the Algerian post and electronic communications control authority, said in an interview with “Al -Sharq” that the licensing companies will gradually publish the service in the country within 8 years, to cover the priority sectors such as health, industry and smart cities, and adds that the licensing period is 15 years renewable. The businesses that win the licenses work in the telecommunications sector in Algeria, three companies, are ‘Algeria Telecom for Mobile’ (Mobilis), ‘Obtumum Telecom Algeria’ (Gizi) and the Patriotism of the Telecom Egypt (overedo). ‘Mobilis’ won the first classification at the auction to obtain its $ 171 million license, while ‘Overedoo Algeria’ came into the second classification and obtained the license for 161 million dollars. As for “Jizi”, it occupied the third classification for $ 159 million. Classification enables businesses to choose the fifth generation domains according to the classification. Algeria has an auction for the award of three licenses at the end of May to serve the fifth generation, and the country in North Africa aims to begin the commercial operation of the service in the third quarter of this year, according to Post and Telecommunications Minister Sayed Ali Zarrouqi in a previous interview with “Al Sharq”. The fifth generation service is gradually launched, starting with the high population density areas, focusing on priority areas such as smart cities, industry sectors, health and transport, and the minister said the first phase depends on the fourth generation infrastructure. Zarrouqi expected the fifth generation project to provide up to 15 thousand direct jobs and 100 thousand indirect jobs.
