CBI Court sentences two police officers up to seven years imprisonment

Mumbai, October 7 (IANS). The CBI Court announced the ruling in the 2009 Ghatkopar death case. In this case, the court sentenced two police officers to seven years imprisonment and fine. Mumbai CBI Court on Tuesday convicted Sanjay Sudam Khedekar, then under-inspector of the Ghatkopar police station, and Raghunath Vithoba Kolekar, then chief inspector, in a death death case. The court sentenced seven years in prison and a fine of Rs 1 lakh each. The case related to the death of Altaf Qadir Sheikh was registered by the CBI SCB, Mumbai, on November 27, 2009, by order of the court in a criminal petition filed by Mehrunissa Qadir Sheikh. The deceased was allegedly arrested in the Ghatkopar police station. He died due to torture of conservation by police officers. Upon completion of the investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet on December 30, 2010 against Sanjay Sudam Khedekar, PSI (A-1), Raghunath Vithoba Kolkar, Chief Constable (A-2) and Sayaji Bapurao Thombs, Police Naik (A-3) (who died against him).
