CBI seizes huge assets of executive director of NHIDCL, Guwahati

Guwahati, October 17 (IANS). The Central Bureau of Investigation (SBI) raided the office and residential premises of the Executive Director and Regional Officer of the Regional Office of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Guwahati. On October 14, the Central Investigation Agency arrested him while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a private person. After searches in Guwahati, Ghaziabad and Imphal, CBI recovered substantial cash and documents related to investments in his name and his family members. CBI seized Rs 2.62 crore in cash, documents related to real estate investments including 9 premium apartment units, 1 premium office space and 3 residential plots in Delhi NCR, documents related to real estate investments including 1 premium apartment and 1 residential plot in Bengaluru, documents related to investments in premium flats in 24 real estates and 24 residential plots including Guwahati. Documents related to the acquisition of 2 residential plots and 1 agricultural land in Imphal West and documents related to ownership investment in 6 luxury luxury vehicles were recovered. Besides, 2 luxury watches worth lakhs of rupees and 100 gram silver bar were also recovered from his residence. Most of the properties bought in the name of the accused government official and his family members appear to be undervalued and are being investigated. Based on information received from sources, CBI registered a case against the accused and two representatives of a private company. The central agency then laid a trap and caught the accused executive director and a private person while the civil servant accepted a bribe of Rs 10,000. A bribe of Rs 10 lakh was taken from a private person for issuing a favorable extension of time (EOT) and completion certificate for the work done by the private company in respect of contracts other than the contract for the 4-laning of National Highway-37 from Demo to the end of Moran bypass in the state of Assam. Both the accused were produced in the court of Special Judge CBI Assam, Guwahati and sent to police custody for 3 days. The arrested accused include executive director Messnam Riten Kumar Singh and M/s Mohan Lal Jain representative of Kolkata, Binod Kumar Jain. –IANS DKP/ Share this story Tags
