Considering the safety and comfort of the devotees during the Chhath festival, the district administration has decided to construct temporary dams (artificial water reservoirs) on some major ghats of Ganga. The construction of these dams has been started at many places including Bansghat. It is being built with the help of JCB at a safe place near the ghats. Dams are constructed on those ghats where the water level of Ganga is high or acid flow and erosion is going on. Officials have been directed to immediately construct temporary dams as an alternative arrangement for the Chhath fast in the ghats which are dangerous or extremely risky. In these ponds excellent arrangements should be made to offer Arghya to the Sun with complete facilities to the devotees. All basic amenities like clean drinking water, separate changing rooms for men and women, adequate lighting, toilets and urinals, watch towers and CCTV cameras for security will be provided near these dams. Let us tell you that the crowd on the Ganga ghats is increasing a lot. At many ghats, incidents of drowning occur due to the depth of water, strong current and erosion. DM took updated information from all 21 sector officials. Dr. Thiagarajan SM said that on the occasion of Chhath festival, excellent crowd management, strong security arrangements and smooth traffic management are the top priorities of the administration. He asked all sector officials to be alert, active and ready about this. He reviewed the agenda wise preparations for the organization of Chhath Mahaparva. The District Magistrate directed the executive engineers of the Building Construction Department to ensure that the control room, watch tower, dressing room and passenger shed are properly arranged at a fast pace. The executive engineer of PHED has been asked to make arrangements for toilets, hand pumps and urinals. All sector officers and sector police officers should ensure all arrangements by inspecting their respective ghats and approaches on foot. The District Magistrate has also constituted a three-member Chhath committee under the chairmanship of the Deputy Development Commissioner for organizing the Chhath festival. This cell will coordinate with the concerned departments for the necessary preparations to be done on the ghats and access roads for the convenience of Chhathvratis and complete the required works on time. Name boards will be put up at various places for the convenience of devotees.
