Chhattisgarh: Dhamtari's campaign against malnutrition, children get nutritious food in 'Laika Ghar'
Dhamtari, October 16 (IANS). The Dhamtari District Administration of Chhattisgarh has taken an important step towards eradicating malnutrition at the grass root level and started a new initiative called ‘Laika Ghar’ (Children’s Home) in the tribal village of Khudurpani. The central and state governments have long been working to fight malnutrition and ensure a healthy future for the country’s children. In this context, this model started in Dhamtari district is considered as an inspiring initiative to provide nutritious food at the village level. Through ‘Lika Ghar’ hot and nutritious food will be provided daily to the children visiting the local Anganwadi centers. This diet includes milk, ragi (millet), madiya (local grain) and other nutritious food items, so that the nutritional needs of the children are met. Collector Avinash Mishra, while giving information about ‘Laika Ghar’ in Khudurpani during a special conversation with IANS, said that ‘Laika Ghar’ will be a strong weapon in our fight against malnutrition. To make Dhamtari a malnutrition free district, we plan to open such centers in every village. Up to the age of three, children are given three meals a day at Laika Ghar. Chhattisgarh’s dream is to be free from malnutrition. Malnutrition continues to be one of the leading causes of child mortality in India, especially in tribal and deprived areas. Lack of nutritious food in the early years of life has long-term effects on the physical and mental development of children. Local Anganwadi worker Manjulata Sahu told IANS that the children here will now get regular nutritious food. It will definitely improve their health, energy and activity. 11 children are registered in Laika Ghar. Here, priority is given to the physical and mental development of children through sports. –IANS ASH/ABM Share this story Tags
